Sarasota fishing report Capt Jim Klopfer 11/15/2015

Capt. Jim Klopfer
November 22, 2015
Sarasota - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishing the deep grass flats in Sarasota Bay continued to produce a wide variety of species, though the stiff breezes and sporadic red tide made the bite a little tough. Anglers landed speckled trout, Spanish mackerel, black sea bass, flounder, jacks, gag grouper, ladyfish and other species using live pilchards and Bass assassin Sea Shad jigs. The flats near Big Pass produced the best. I fished Lake Manatee and the Manatee River on Fri and Saturday, landing snook, bass, bream, and gar on Rapala X-Raps and Beetlespins.

I had 3 Indiana boys on the boat on Wednesday. The wind was blowing strong out of the southeast, and picked up throughout the morning. I caught bait and hit the Middlegrounds and Radio Tower, catching a few trout and ladyfish. We oved to Marina Jacks and caught a few fish on two drifts, mostly on jigs, then moved over t marker #5. I anchored and chummed and for an hour or so the bite was steady. Gag grouper to 18", flounder to 15", trout, jacks, ladyfish, and sea bass kept the fellas busy. The wind became too strong and blew us off the anchor, so we finished up hiding behind Bird Key, catching a few more fish.

On Friday and Saturday George Eurick from the Chicago area went out on a couple of freshwater charters. We fished Lake Manatee on Friday and the bass really were not cooperating, though we did catch a couple along with some very nice bluegill on black Beetlespins. Action was better on Saturday as we fished the Manatee River out of Ray's Canoe Hideaway. George caught 2 big gar, several snook, and a nice bass casting a Firetiger Rapala BX Minnow.
