Sarasota - Saltwater Fishing Report
Rich Ruis, his son Tom, and brother-in-law Hank DeYoung from Michigan had an excellent morning on Sunday. We did get rained on a couple of times and had to sit under bridges, but we were rewarded with speckled trout to 21", bluefish and Spanish mackerel to 3 pounds, silver trout, ladyfish, gag grouper, and flounder on the deep flats at the north end of Siesta Key. I netted up some pilchards and we finished the trip with a flurry of snook, landing 18 to 28" along with a jack crevelle near the Siesta Dr Bridge.
Jody and Greg Love from Janesville, WI had a good trip on Monday morning. The tide was a little slow to get moving, but they caught several nice Spanish mackerel and lost a few more, speckled and silver trout, ladyfish, and sea bass on pilchards near Big Pass. They finished up catching a snook each on the way back in along Siesta Key
The Stasny family from Woodridge, IL fished with me on Tuesday and Wednesday. Jacqueline (9), Kyle (14) and Natalie (7) along with Patti and Dan caught Spanish mackerel, speckled trout, silver trout, ladyfish, jacks, and flounder on the deep flats. We finished up on Wednesday with Kyle landing 3 snook to 22' on pilchards on the west side of Robert's Bay.
We absolutely wrecked them on Thursday! Cathy and Jim Dorricott from Osprey, FL tok their daughter Kaitlyn and her friend Danielle out fishing. Spanish mackerel, ladyfish, and trout provided steady action in Big Pass and the nearby flats. With an hour to go I netted up some pilchards, chummed a deep edge, and we caught a HUGE Spanish mackerel, several smaller macks, 3 trout over the slot to 24", 3 flounder, and a bunch of ladyfish.
Fly anglers David Morgan and Jed Lyons from Washington, D.C. caught Spanish mackerel, speckled trout, silver trout, and ladyfish on white and red/white Clouser Minnows. Action slowed, so I netted up some pilchards and we finished catching several snook (losing two big ones) and a 5 lb jack crevelle under a Siesta Key dock.
