Stick Marsh-Farm 13 - Freshwater Fishing Report

It certainly seems the statements regarding the road have had some effect in that a lot of people have stopped by and said thanks. Hope the word keeps going.
Yesterday Jim and Holly Cutting from Montana spent half a day working over the bass on Farm 13. Using buzz baits and spinner baits through and off hydrilla their trip managed 20 bass in the boat to 5 pounds. The line of hydrilla runs east to west on the north end of the Farm and the bass for the most part were bucks apparently working beds.
Today Bill Borrero of Matawan, NJ took his turn at the rod and working with shiners he boated 64 bass with the biggest being 8 pounds. Bill took to all the vagaries of shiner fishing like a duck to water and did one heck of a great job with hook sets and getting the fish to the boat. Shiner fishing, as those that try it quickly find out, is not a lay down method of Bassing. The area we started in on the west side of the Farm was dynamite until the mudfish moved in. They forced us to move out and find an alternative location and off we moved to the vicinity of the spillway. In no time the bass were cooperating and Bill could not get over the quality of fish. The smallest bass today was 3 pounds and many were in the 5-pound range.
For those that opt to fish the Marsh/Farm with artificial the baits that are working right now are: buzz baits, crank baits, floating (swimming) worms, spinner baits, and the occasional chug bug, Pop’R type baits. I would imagine that you would also find some success with rattletraps and lightly weighted Texas rigs. The areas that you will find the fish are the areas adjacent to hydrilla lines (without yellow algae on them), and open areas that have emerging hydrilla. The south end of the Farm is one such area. If you want to risk the Marsh, top water will be just about your only choice. The fish are there; it’s just the hazards of the stumps and the hang-ups that make the choice a questionable one.
Good luck out there and be careful. Cya on the water.
