Stuart - Saltwater Fishing Report

We have been blessed with decent weather for the most part since our last report on the 29th. Offshore between the DayMaker and the big boat we were able to fish 19 out of 21 days. We have had some fair mahi mahi fishing catching as many as a 1/2 dozen on a few occasions with the biggest fish being around 20lbs. Multiple days we caught limits of kingfish up to 20lbs and throw in a handful of sailfish releases and a 40lb wahoo and I say things have been pretty good. As we transition from winter to spring fishing in March expect the dolphin numbers to steadily increase in both quantity and quality. Along with the arrival of Spring mahi mahi fishing we see and influx of blackfin tuna, Cobia and Permit. Both trolling and live bait kite fishing for the Mahis and tuna will be excellent March April and May. Sight fishing for Cobia and Permit with light spin tackle becomes the norm along the beach and inshore wrecks. Better eat your wheaties to catch these bulldogs. Cobia average around 30lbs and we see Permit from 10-40lbs.
Bottom fishing for snapper continues to be excellent with us catching a limit of 10 snapper per person on multiple trips the past couple of weeks. Most of the snapper have been on the smaller side but when you have 40-50 of them they add up to some great eating for many meals to come. We have been catching and releasing Grouper and Amberjack as well because of closed seasons. Grouper season opens May 1st so give us a call to get on the books!

The past couple of weeks has also yielded some great fishing in the river for snook, tarpon, trout, redfish, jacks and more. Snook season just opened back up and the fishing hasn't disappointed. With plenty of double-digit catches on 4-5hr trips light tackle fishing the river. Capt. Marshal has also run some trips up the river chasing redfish and trout and the fishing has continued to be great up the river as well. The biggest surprise over the last 2 weeks has been a strong showing of tarpon at multiple locations in the river. Multiple trips have yielded 6-8 bites from Tarpon on 4 and 5hr trips. Like offshore charters when the weather gets ice you will be able to run offshore on the Pathfinder to target Cobia and Permit as well.

As the temperatures start to heat back up so is the fishing. Give me a call to book your inshore or offshore fishing charters with DayMaker charters.
