Bottom Fishing Remains Good

Capt. Nick Cremasco
June 11, 2015
Stuart - Saltwater Fishing Report

May 29:

Today we fished with Helena, John and Ray for a full day bottom fishing charter. We had great bottom fishing catching a limit of Gag Grouper, 6 nice size Triggerfish, a keeper Amberjack and a variety of other smaller bottom dwellers. Great day on the bottom still no mahi action to be had on the surface. Worst spring run I can remember in 10 years.

Grouper, amberjack, triggerfish and Philips first Cobia. A great 1/2 day. Now time to get down to business...

Tough conditions with glass calm seas and no clouds. Extreme heat. We found 16 packs of birds and 5 of them had Yellowfin Tuna in them. We never had a Yellowfin bite. We had some Blackfin and skipjack action. We even found a high flyer that was adrift for a long time with tons of bait on it but no mahis, no tripletail and no wahoo. Very disappointing.

In the right spot but they had lock jaw for sure...

Our afternoon trip yieled mangrove, mutton, lane and yellowtail snapper. Glass eyed torros, triggerfish, sea bass, rudderfish and more. Nothing big but plenty of action...

June 2, 2015

Morning trip: Epic mahi conditions never had a bite in 2hrs of trolling. Heard of a few small ones caught scattered about! Caught lanes, sea bass, porgies broke a grouper off and caught a nice size AJ for the fryer with the small stuff.

3/4 day today. Cut it short because of tough fishing and adverse conditions. 3+ knots of north tide outside of 125ft. Fished north of the 200 line and ended below the 30 line. Caught some AJs, Lessers, Yellowtail, Vermilion and Mutton snapper. And the biggest Rainbow Runner I have ever seen in my life!

Today Marshall reported releasing 14 snook and some jacks on an inshore fishing charter with Jeff and Max. Action slowed a little from the previous week but still some great fishing in the Indian River Lagoon.

This afternoon I took my brother Eric and his daughter Paige from Georgia. Also joining the group was My dad, my wife Mandy and my son Zane. We had fun fishing for a couple of hours catching triggerfish, sea bass, vermillion red snapper and a handful of grouper bites that we broke off.

Family fun is what its all about. Take a kid fishing!

Marshall reported excellent light tackle trout fishing this morning on a 5 hour river fishing charter. They caught a total of 29 trout and a 8lb Tripltail for dinner as well.

Today we went daytime swordfishing and we were able to make 4 drops before the weather chased us off the sword grounds. We caught a couple of mahi while making our drifts and we had one bite that we didn't come tight on. When we were moving back for another drift we saw a 100lb Blue Marlin feeding in the grass and pitched it a couple of live baits on spinning rods but unfortunately we did not have a bite.

June 8, 2015

Today we fished with Bruce and Alexander. We had good results despite some difficult condtions. We caught a limit of Gag Grouper to 30lbs, a state limit of 25-30lb Cobia, amberjacks and a nice sized Genuine Red Snapper about 20lbs.

Bottom fishing charters will remain hot through July and then its time for night time snapper fishing charters, high speed wahoo charters and charter fishing for swordfish.

Today we had Travis, Chris and NIck who were graduating from Jensen Beach High School. There dads got them two days of fishing offshore with me and two days inshore with Marshall. We had a great day of fishing today. We caught a variety of species of snapper including Mangrove, Yellowtail, and Mutton snapper. We also caught 3 kingfish and a mahi. To top off the bottom action we caught a decent red grouper and some amberjacks.

We had to cut our full day short to a 3/4 day fishing charter because of building inlcement weather. We had a great morning of bottom fishing. We caught 10 snapper keeping 8. We caught a 25lb Cobia, a kingfish and lost a nice Kingfish about 25lbs. We also caught 1 out of 6 Grouper bites and caught a nice sized Almaco Jack for dinner as well.
