Dolphin and Bottom Fishing

Capt. Nick Cremasco
February 9, 2015
Stuart - Saltwater Fishing Report

February 3:

Today we had a fun day of fishing with Kurt, Doug, Pete, and Jimmy. We started the day kite fishing for dolphin and sailfish and after a couple of hours we had only had a couple mahi bites catching one about 15lbs and a killer wahoo bite. Unfortunately the wahoo got away after biting through the mono leader. I decided to switch gears to trolling to cover some ground and the action did not disappoint. We had close to 30 dolphin bites trolling. We kept 15 mahis and a kingfish for the smoker. All in all a great day.

When we got back to the cleaning table I found a bird skull and bill attached in the stomach of one of the mahis.

February 4:

We tried a lot of stuff today with mixed results. I started the day trolling for dolphin and sailfish feeding off of yesterday's dolphin bite but in two hours we never had a dolphin or sail bite. As a matter of fact we only had a single kingfish bite. I switched gears to bottom fishing and we released plenty of Genuine Red Snapper and a decent Gag Grouper. We also caught Sea Bass, Porgies, Vermillion Snapper, Lane Snapper and a cobia while bottom fishing. I decided to go out to the deep and make some deep drops and we caught some nice sized Sea Bass in the 20" range but the current made it challenging so we didn't spend much time. I decided we would kite fish for a little while and see if we could catch a mahi or a sailfish that way. We caught 1-2 mahis, a shark and pulled off a sailfish. Ended the day hitting a couple of spots for cobia and pulled one nice fish off.

We rescheduled our deep sea fishing charter today because of bad weather from a passing cold front
