Engine Back Together and Tuna Season is Done

Capt. Nick Cremasco
September 12, 2013
Stuart - Saltwater Fishing Report

September 1:

Today we got the new riser and water can put back on the engine. Also re-installed the aftercooler after cleaning the air side from the exhaust leak we had. FRESH PAINT.

Looking forward to getting back to fishing soon.

September 2:

Today we ran over to the other side on a customer's 39' Yellowfin with quad 300 Mercs. We cruised around at 45mph looking for birds and tuna. We covered 367 miles and caught a couple Blackfin, a Skipjack and jumped off a sail. We did see a couple Yellowfin but the bird life was minimal and so was the fish life.

Till next year.

September 5:

Despite good to great fishing for wahoo and swordfish, some summer sails and mixed bag bottom fishing, over all, the month of September presents hurdles for us. School is back in, people are up north from hurricane season and afternoon thunderstorms makes it difficult to hold onto evening wahoo and sword charters.

Looking forward to some great fall fishing though.

September 7:

Today we fished with Chip his son Ricky, Deneille and Mark. We started the day catching a little bait for a Stuart Fl bottom fishing charter. Then we went fishing for wahoo, dolphin, and Sailfish. Our trolling charter was slow for a couple hours with only 1 bite from a wahoo that we missed.

So we switched gears to bottom fishing and had some adverse conditions to deal with. We either had no tide or South tide which is not ideal for bottom fishing charters. We ended up catching some Sea Bass, Lane Snapper an Almaco Jack around 18lbs and a 30lb Cobia. The Cobia came in the 4th quarter on our last spot of the day. Making our day for sure.

We also found a semi-submerged Cuban raft while running between bottom spots. This 18ft boat was in about 130ft of water and unfortunately for us had no dolphin or wahoo on it. BOOOOOO!

September 11:

WE WILL NEVER FORGET!!!

I remember where I was on September 11, 2001. I was working on a private sportfish and we were and had been stationed at Sapphire Beach Resort and Marina in St. Thomas. I was soaping the boat in the morning after having some Sahara dust blow through in a tropical wave overnight. I was called inside by Captain Todd who was cleaning inside and doing paperwork. Needless to say the soap dried on the boat for the next 4-5 hrs.

We were supposed to go to Venezuela in a couple weeks. We had a cracked head on one of the engines and had to go to San Juan Puerto Rico first to have it fixed. We moved the boats there the next day and with the flight embargo sat for 10 days glued to the TV at Outback Steakhouse. The only place we could find TV with English at the time.

God Bless those who lost their lives and the families that were affected and We pray for those that continue to protect and serve us in and for this amazing country.

September 12:

We will be giving a seminar on Bottom fishing at the Stuart Sailfish Club General meeting on Friday September 13th. The Seminar will start at 6 and you do not have to be a member to attend. The Seminar will be located at FishHeads Bait and Tackle in Stuart FL.
