Mahi-Mahi and Bottom Fishing Dominate

Capt. Nick Cremasco
June 25, 2014
Stuart - Saltwater Fishing Report

June 17:

Today we left for our 1/2 day family fishing charter around 7 and had a fun filled day. We caught some bait rain off and caught 18 snapper keeping 10 for dinner. And then we decided to look for a dolphin or two. We were fortunate to hook a double header of small dolphin for my Dad and my Son Zane. A great way to wrap up the trip with the family and Zane finally catching his first ever mahi!

Despite the precipitation forecast the guys decided the wanted to give it a go. Besides the rain and clouds playing tricks on us so did the grass. Fishing was difficult and we only managed to catch 1 out of 2 Yellowfin tuna a a mahi.

June 19:

Today both boats fished again and we opted to stay inshore and bottom fish on the DayMaker for our Stuart Fl fishing charter. We caught snapper, amberjack, porgies, 6 mahis and Grouper. The weather was starting to brew so we ran into look for some Cobia and the lightning gods woke up and we called it an early day at noon.

The big boat was way offshore with Capt Ian and was having some luck with small dolphin. They caught over 30 but were only able to keep 8 because of size limit regulations. When they made there way back inshore the storms had moved out and they were able to land 2 cobia where we had seen them before getting chased out by weather. Both Cobia were keepers and putting the icing on the cake for another great Stuart Fl fishing charter with DayMaker fishing charters Stuart Fl.

June 20:

Today we fished the big boat and the goal since the group caught some mahis yesterday was to spend some time bottom fishing for Grouper and Snapper. We started the morning bottom fishing for snapper and there was minimal current. We caught a few snappers, some porgies and trigger fish and went on the hunt for Grouper. We did manage to catch 1 out of 3 Grouper bites but it was a nice one weighing about 38lbs. We also caught some Amberjack and switched gears to sea bass fishing and caught 30 Sea Bass quickly.

Decided to run inshore and look for a last minute Cobia and we caught a couple bonito and hooked into a big bull shark around 300lbs that we fought in the rain. When we were done we made a b line for the marina and got in just before the lightning started. Another great Stuart Fl fishing charter in the books.

June 22:

Today our afternoon 1/2 day was with our anglers from last Saturday. Jeff, Max, Jackson and Michele had so much fun last Saturday they gave it another shot today. We ran out and went for the action spot right away with the kids. We caught about 30 Snapper keeping a limit of 20 Vermillion Snapper and adding 9 porgies to the box as well. After catching the limit of snapper we bump trolled some live baits hoping to catch one of the free jumping sailfish we had seen while anchored up. No bites so we ran inshore to look for cobia and we raised a couple of them on our first drift and caught 1 about 25lbs. We made another drift and never saw them again and it was time to end our Stuart Fl fishing charter. Another 1/2 day of smiles and a box full of fish.

June 22:

Today we fished a morning 1/2 day bottom fishing charter with the Pfisters and we had great action all morning. We caught about 25 snapper including Lanes, Vermillion and Genuine Red Snapper. We kept a limit of what we were allowed and went searching for Grouper. Our Grouper fishing season has not been up to standards since the week long cold water stretch we had in mid May but everyday is different so we gave it a shot. We caught a couple of Amberjacks to 30lbs lost a couple grouper in the bottom and released some more Genuine Red Snappers.
