Pirates Cove Sailfish Classic

Capt. Nick Cremasco
December 6, 2015
Stuart - Saltwater Fishing Report

December 2:

Well fishing was equally as slow today for the fleet but we had a much better day just had some bad luck. We hooked a fish just before lunch but we needed two so we continued to fish and on the 3rd circle the fish made a fast move we couldnt recover from and she came off. At noon we made a 15 mile power move to the north and set out. The dolphin fishing was INSANE and we finally caught our first sailfish of the tournamnet at 2:20. To put in perspective how slow the fishing for sails was we won the nooner award which goes to the boat releasing the fish closest to noon. WOW IT WAS 2:20...

We set back out and drilled a hole in the spot for the next hour and 10 minutes. At about 10 minutes till lines out we raised a sail on the left teaser. The downside was we had 6 mahis on at the same time and by the time we got them cut off and a bait to the sail he was gone. Now here is the real kicker, lines out at 3:30 and we hooked a sailfish at 3:30.02 as the committee boat finished saying lines out we were tight. We caught the fish in under a couple of minutes for our 2nd fish of the day which would have been good enough for 3rd place in the two day tournament. But despite the fact we flew the flag we didnt count it in the tournament. So 3rd place money went to the Intents with 1 fish on time from the first day of fishing. WOW!

December 3:

Today was a prep day for the Pirates Cove Sailfish Classic. We got 250 mullet picked up and 300 ballyhoo delivered. Rods were re spooled and then the dock talk started. The weather forecast was NE 20-25 knot winds seas 8-11ft for Saturday and Sunday and the kicker was 100% chance of rain. WOW!

So the rumors started. I checked with the dockmaster and 5 boats out of the 19 registered had back out on dockage. 3 other boats I knew of were backing out as well and after discussing the weather and depleting fleet with the owner of the Kickin Tires and the crew we decided to withdraw. At the Captains meeting there were 7 boats thinking of fishing or trying to get the dates changed to monday tuesday. The tournament kept the dates the same and 3 more boats backed out. So as of Day 1 of fishing 4 boats were registered to fish.

December 4:

Well 4 boats remained registered and 3 of them went home. The only boat to fish this Historical Pirates Cove Sailfish Classic was the Krazy Salts. Friday was to be the nicest day of the 3 and the Krazy Salts released 3 sailfish to win the daily and the tournament against themselves. Pretty crazy, been doing this for 20+ years and have never seen or heard of this before. UNPRECENTED!

December 5:

Today was Day 2 of the Pirates Cove Sailfish Classic and the Krazy Salts fished again today for part of the day. Sounds like mahis, Blackfin and wahoo but no sailfish before they came in for the day.

December 6:

Don't think the Krazy Salts fished today from what I understand. But they did win the 3 day tournament on the 1st day....
