Stuart - Saltwater Fishing Report

Stuart Florida Spring fishing is heating up and should be in full swing in the next couple of weeks. The last day we got to fish Monday the 26th the fleet that spent all day trolling reported good dolphin action for the first time in many weeks. Boats reported as many as 15 fish boated with an average size around 14lbs. The best action was in a depth around 250ft on the East side of a color change and current edge that held a little bit of scattered grass. Trolled ballyhoo or small lures are the preferred method. We only spent about 2 hours trolling on Monday and we caught 5 Mahi all around 10lbs. We also hooked but lost a 40lb Wahoo about 10ft from the boat. Dolphin fishing will hopefully remain steady with low double digit catches for the next couple of weeks and peak with some big number and really big fish in late April and May.
Bottom fishing remains as hot as it has ever been. Jigs, Live Bait, Dead Bait, Cut bait are all producing lots of Grouper and they are big. This past week in back to back days we caught Grouper weighing 53 and 42lbs. The bigger was a warsaw and the smaller a Gag. We have caught between 5-11 Grouper a day all being released though because of the closure till May 1st. Genuine Snapper as big as 36" have also been boated on the DayMaker. Amberjack action has remained steady and their are some real big boys around. We caught fish as big as 75lbs the last day we fished. WOW! Great fights and great tasting do not underestimate either about an Amberjack.

There has still been a scattered sail bite but the best action has been with live bait. Boats fishing kites have had better luck seeing fish and catching more too. Boats are averaging 2-3 shots on a full day of fishing.

Stay tuned for some RED HOT Spring action to come.
