Fishing Report for Indian River & St. Lucie River - Offshore

Capt. Kevin Drennan
September 23, 2004
Stuart - Saltwater Fishing Report

After being pounded by hurricane Frances for 2 days, and being without power for 9days, I can finally give somewhat of a fishing report for the Stuart area. It took quite a while for the seas to calm down enough and boats to venture out again but even as I write this report, high surf advisories are back in effect.

Offshore the bait pods are scattered but live bait can be found near the beaches. Some cobia have been caught in close. There were some small black fin tuna caught on 6 mile reef over the weekend while bottom fishing on the reefs has produced some nice grouper and snapper. The dolphin fishing was producing well before the storm but seems more scattered now. Kings can be caught in the 60 ft. range.

The Indian River still has plenty of finger mullet and snook and small tarpon are pounding them between Herman’s Bay and the Jensen Beach Causeway.

The St. Lucie River is been trashed with fresh water from the big lake as water management tries to lower its level from all the rain.

Hopefully things will improve in the next couple of weeks and our great fishing here will return to normal. More later.
