Fishing Report for Indian River & St. Lucie River - Offshore

Capt. Kevin Drennan
January 13, 2005
Stuart - Saltwater Fishing Report

Blue marlin are the buzz off of Stuart the past week. Several boats have been catching them while hunting for sailfish. One boat had a bill fish grand slam, catching a sailfish and both a blue and a white marlin. The sail fishing is still spotty and are not being caught in last year’s numbers. Some wahoo are being caught and the dolphin bite is scattered. Some days you can troll for hours without seeing any and others you are putting them on the table. There has been some yellowfin tuna caught with some blackfin also. One boat had a 120 lb yellowfin weighed in. Bottom fishing has been decent with small grouper, a mixed bag of nice snapper, and good size triggerfish. The Spanish mackerel are still all over the reefs south of the St. Lucie inlet.

Pompano have been all around the 25 cent bridge on both moving tides. Anglers have been limiting out in an hour or two. Trout are all over the Indian River from the Jensen Causeway up to Fort Pierce. Some of these fish are in the gator class so try some nice finger mullet. The north fork of the St. Lucie is holding some nice snook around the docks and sea walls. A live mullet at dusk and after dark are the best bet. The winds are kicking up again so lets hope it doesn’t last so we can all get back out offshore for some great fishing. More later.
