Stuart - Saltwater Fishing Report

Between rain, wind, and hurricanes, it has really been tough to get offshore for the past month. Before Wilma the fishing was scattered with some dolphin, sails and bonita being caught. The storm dropped water temperatures several degrees and changed the game. We are seeing more dolphin and sails than before. As each cold front moves through’ the sailfishing off of Stuart should get better each day. The king bite has also picked up some as well as bottom fishing with some nice snapper and grouper being caught.
In the rivers before the storm, the snook bite was hot. We caught 6 snook trolling bomber lures on the way back in from an offshore day in the north fork canals. The spillways of the St. Lucie and the Roosevelt bridge also produced some nice snook. After the storm the water temps dropped and the tarpon moved out and the redfish moved into the Indian River north of the Jensen beach causeway. Live shrimp were the ticket for the slot-sized fish. We boated 5 snook yesterday trolling bomber lures in and out of the shadow line of the dime bridge between Stuart and Sewall’s Point. The best time seems to be just after the turn of the tide. A sign of the season change is the arrival of the Spanish mackerel schools They are currently in numbers at Peck’s Lake and are moving into the rivers. Clark spoons and Gulfstream glass minnow lures are the best bet even though they will hit anything that shines. Hopefully the bad weather is behind us and we can get some great fishing in. More later.
