Stuart - Saltwater Fishing Report

Snook season is almost upon us and tropical storm Ernesto is moving up the state, dropping several inches of rain as it heads north. We caught some big snook the other day up to 30 lbs. over some structure near the St. Lucie Inlet in 35 ft. of water. We also caught a couple of Mahi in the same area as they were being pursued by porpoise. It was a sight to see these schoolie dolphin lit up like neon signs as they swam for their lives. It was good to see the dolphin bite pick up a bit after a long dry spell. Sail fishing has slowed a bit but the king bite has been hot. Just drift or slow troll some live baits near the bait pods and hold on. Bonita are everywhere and the challenge is to get them to the boat before the barracuda get to them. The cuda can tear a bonehead apart in a matter of seconds. The swordfish bite at night has been fairly steady. Wahoo have been taken in decent numbers also. Trout and reds can be caught on the Indian River in the early hours. Pigfish have been a great bait. Snook on topwater near the mangroves round it out. The north fork of the St. Lucie is holding tarpon near the Club Med. Snook are on the seawalls and in the canals feeding on glass minnows. We have been catching some on slow trolled bomber lures and popping plugs. More later
