Stuart - Saltwater Fishing Report

September is turning out to be a tough month for offshore fishing due to large swells from several tropical storms. Runoff from a lot of rain has dirtied the water and pushed the bait pods further out to sea. There have been some bright spots in the area when the boats can get out. There are some dolphin, sailfish, and a260lb. blue marlin was caught the other day. Just yesterday we had a trip where we caught 13 dolphin. up to 30lbs. The larger ones were caught on trolled ballyhoo. The schoolies were caught on live baits that we caught in the weed lines. Small baits were all over the area hiding in the weeds as schools of mahi fed on them. Several were caught on jigs thrown into the frenzy. Everyone went home with some tasty filets. If you cannot find bait in close, check the wrecks and weed lines for it.

The Indian River has schools of finger mullet roaming around. Snook, jacks trout and redfish are pounding them in the early hours. We had a nice gator trout and a snook the other day on top water plugs two days ago. The bridges are producing large snook at night using bomber lures and storm wild eye shad in the mullet colors. The 4 inch size is a good bet. Toss them near the pilings and retrieve slowly and your patience should pay off. The St. Lucie snook fishing is decent at the seawalls and docks. A finger mullet or top water plugs work best. More later.
