Stuart - Saltwater Fishing Report

The winds were blowing and a high surf advisory was in effect, but the last couple of days we were finally able to get out and fish. Sailfish and dolphin were on the menu and those that got out were rewarded. The sailfish migration is beginning to move through the area. Each cold front has brought them closer. Several boats yesterday had multiple hookups dragging ballyhoo north of the St. Lucie inlet. There was a lot of dolphin caught also. The depths and location of the fish varied so it pays to listen to the charter boats on the radio. As I am writing this report I am listening to my marine radio and dolphin are being caught all day long. The weather is going to be great all weekend so get out there and catch some dinner. Dredging has begun at the inlet and it is a no wake zone from the crossroads to the rocks. Be careful because there is a lot of dredging pipe in the water. Today the Spanish mackerel were all over just outside the inlet and to the south. We had our limit in about an hour trolling the Gulfstream glass minnow lures. The bright green color is the best. These lures can also be cast and retrieved very fast. We had a nice flounder, some mangrove snapper and black drum at the dime bridge on the way back in. Snook are being caught at the bridges at night using bombers and flair hawks. Throw up current and work the lure into the shadow line. Big jacks are all over and always give a great fight. Bluefish are also in the mix so have some spoons handy. More later.
