Stuart - Saltwater Fishing Report

The past two weeks the king bite has been pretty consistent although they have been out in deeper water. We have had several in 120ft. near the Rankin on different days which were caught on live baits. We also had a 22lb blackfin tuna on a live greenie which almost spooled us the other day. We were down to the mono backing on a large spinning reel before we were able to stop him. The sashimi and seared fillets were delicious. The dolphin bite is finally starting to pick up although it is scattered. Several fish have been boated the past few days and we hope it will just get better as we move into the fall season. Snook season reopens and we look forward to keeping a fish or two but it will be much more difficult with the new slot of 28-32 inches. The inlet rocks and the bridges, especially the Roosevelt have been producing fish consistently. Live bait or terrorizes in the root beer color will work well. Bombers and windcheaters will produce at night. Remember to cast into the lighted water and retrieve into the shadow line. The trout bite remains strong but getting out early remains the key. Top water early and suspending lures as the morning progresses will work well. In the St. Lucie River, look for snook and tarpon crashing mullet in the early hours near the seawalls. Trolling bombers in the canals have boated many a snook near dusk. More later.
