Stuart - Saltwater Fishing Report

We have had some decent fishing in the Stuart area as of late. The offshore bite has steadily picked up as far as sailfish and dolphin go. The past three trips out, we have had several of each species at the boat. We were surrounded by a school of dolphin the other day and every bait we threw out was quickly grabbed up. The depths varied according to the edges that build up from the wind and current. Look for color changes especially where the blue water meets the green. We have been trolling ballyhoo because live bait has been hard to come by. We caught fish in three hundred as well as ninety feet so be prepared to hunt around for them. The sailfish bite has been fairly steady and should pick up a little each week. The Spanish mackerel have not settled into Pecks Lake yet but we picked up a few on a color change in forty feet on the way out the other day. Look for the birds picking on the scraps as these fish feed on glass minnows. Any quickly retrieved shiny plug or spoon will work well. Reports of a few pompano are starting to come in. They were caught by the Jensen Beach Causeway and also at Hells Gate. The dime bridge has quite a mixed bag of fish. We caught black drum, mangrove snapper, sheepshead, croaker to three pounds, and released four speckled trout yesterday. We used shrimp tipped redfish and pompano jigs. Just bounce them along the bottom and you will be sure to catch fish. The key is to use fresh shrimp cut in half the frozen do not work as well. Have a great Thanksgiving and go catch some fish for the table. More later.
