Stuart - Saltwater Fishing Report

There has been some decent fishing the past couple of weeks out of the St. Lucie inlet. Dolphin, kings, and sailfish have been taken in some pretty steady action. Anywhere from eighty feet out is a good place to start. Look for birds and current edges and put out your lines. We have been trolling dead ballyhoo because live bait has been hard to come by. Yesterday we were able to catch some threadfins and we hope that this continues. The Spanish mackerel have been steady at Peck’s Lake but at times they are on the bottom so remember to let your jig sink to the bottom before you begin your retrieve. When they are low in the water column trolling will not work. The pompano fishing has been off of what it should be this time of year but a few are being taken near the Jensen Causeway and in the north fork of the St. Lucie river near Bessey Creek, Harbor Ridge, and Club Med. Croaker and an occasional black drum are being taken near the bridges. We have had some huge catch and release snook in the canals of North River Shores on live mullet which are in a great abundance. It amazes me how many we can catch after the season closes. Trout season opens on January 1st and it will be fun to keep a couple for dinner. Happy new year and more later.
