Stuart - Saltwater Fishing Report

The past couple of weeks we have had some night time temps in the thirties and a couple of days later the daytime temps were back in the eighties. The fishing has been as inconsistent as the weather. There has been scattered dolphin and kings but the sailfish bite has dropped off considerably. Live bait has been hard to come by so we have been trolling ballyhoo. We have caught a few dolphin but they have been small. The sailfish are still well north of us and we need some more cold fronts to send them our way. The mackerel bite at Peck’s Lake has been rather slow but if you stick with it and get your baits or lures to the bottom you should do alright. We have had some good fishing at the Ten Cent bridge using shrimp tipped jigs. Croaker, mangrove snapper, black drum, jacks, and ladyfish will bend a rod on days we cannot get offshore. We released a nice snook the other day using this method. There are reports of redfish and trout south of the power lines in the Indian River. The pompano bite is hit and miss and should pick up with colder water temperatures. There is plenty of mullet in the north fork of the St. Lucie and plenty of jacks are filling up on them. The power head on my out board gave out the other day and should be replaced by mid week and we are looking forward to getting out again. More later.
