January 20:

Man, Mental overload today. The wind gods were messing with my mind and my emotions.

We left Pirates Cove at 7 with Brent and company hoping to catch some sails. We caught bait and I started out kite fishing in 145ft. I got two flatlines out and the bow kite up and the first bait in it and as I was letting it out it got shampooed by a sailfish 20ft from the boat. Sick bite and everyone saw it. I ran back to grab another bait to fire up in the kite and both flatlines went off. So we had a triple header of sailfish on in the first 5 minutes of fishing. The guys danced around as the fish were too. As we chased down the last fish we had another sail bite on a flatline but he pulled off. The last two sails took an hour and 10 minutes to release because of a 7/10 split! Ran back to where we had the bites and put two flatlines out and got two kite baits up and went to put the 2nd kite up and the wind completely flopped and so did the kite. Didn't dunk it but we were done kite fishing.

Went to rigger fishing and never had a bite on our live bait. It breezed back up and I switched to kite fishing again and got two flatlines and two kite baits up and the wind flopped again. Cleared everything and went trolling. We trolled for 2 hours without a bite and it was blowing 10-15 the whole time. Decided to kite fish again and put two flatlines out and he first kite bait got bit. It turned into a double with a flat line bite as we chased the first fish off the bow the 2nd headed to palm beach. 7-10 split again and we could see the gold spool on the reels. After a hour and a 1/2 we got both releases. But the 2nd fish squirted off after we got the leader and was devoured by a BIG MAKO OR A GREAT WHITE 40 Ft from the boat. All I saw was a big blue back lots of white water and lots of blood. While we were fighting the last double we caught a cobia out of a couple. Heard of some good cobia action late and some really good Blackfin tuna fishing 25 miles north of the inlet.

Can't wait for tomorrow!

January 21:

Well the sail bite fell flat for the fleet today but we didn't disappoint in the meat department for our guys today.

We caught some live bait this morning and when running off I saw a free jumping sail. We stopped and pitched a live bait and came tight! Fish went crazy windshield washing and chaffed us off. Few more king bites in 50ft so we ran offshore.

Started trolling in 70ft and raised a sailfish trolling we pulled off in 85ft. Trolled out to 145ft and we caught some really nice Blackfin tuna and released a single sailfish. I started to troll south and we hooked a decent mahi and then jumped a good bull off. When the cow came to he boat the bull was there and we pitched it a live bait. Caught both fish and then only had a few bonito bites. Decided to run south and put up the kites for the last hour. We jumped a sailfish off and caught 1 out of 3 Cobia.

Our repeat client Steve and his guests were snowed in up north from Winter Storm Jonas!

Looking forward to tomorrow for sure!

January 24:

We had excellent fishing today for sailfish on the Kickin Tires. We raised 21 sailfish today, had 15 bites and released 9. We caught 7 the conventional way. We had some super fun catching and releasing a single sailfish on 6lb test on a rod and reel you see some people use for car antennas. We also caught one on a ZEBCO push button reel we all grew up fishing with. That was a hoot!

We also caught 5 mahi-mahi for dinner.

Sailfish are here give us a call to book your sailfish charter. February is filling up fast.
