Stuart - Saltwater Fishing Report

April 18:
Long day but worth it.
We fished a 3/4 day this morning with Scott, Nesta, Dan and Eli. We started the morning looking for Cobia. We had decent action catching 3 fish in different areas in the morning. 1 barely legal fish, a throwback and a 42lb fish. We then ran off to troll, which by the way has been pathetic and we trolled great conditions for an hour with no bites. Decided to give bottom fishing a try so Eli could get in on the action. We caught a dozen snapper and when he was tired we swung for the fence for another cobia. We pulled a fish off then hooked another that charged the boat and before the angler could correct his rod position the fish was on the opposite side of the boat on the surface and swimming our from the stern and into the running gear. I took a gaff shot but the dish was out of range and it was now under the boat and in the prop and rudder. I tried for about 3-4 minutes to get the fish out with the rod but no luck. I could still feel him on the line. We turned off the motor so I could see and get low on my platform with my 8ft gaff. I was able to gaff the line between the fish and the running gear on the 3rd attempt. I grabbed the line and hand lined the fish up and stuck him while on my knees on the platform. Now that was fun, the old fart still has it sometimes...
The afternoon 1/2 trip with Mike and his wife Chris was great as well. We hopped around and caught 4 cobia keeping 3 and also threw 17 lane snapper in the box for tacos!
Great day had by all and back at it tomorrow.

April 19:
Fished with Scott, Jeff and Andy today. Caught 2-5 cobia (1 keeper) 1/2 dozen snapper we kept, a nice size AJ and a nice sized Almaco. They also wanted to catch a shark so we fought and landed one on a Penn Blackfin combo after an hour and twenty three minutes.

April 20:
Had a great full day with regular clients Mark and Keely H.
We started the day Cobia fishing and we caught a Kingfish, 2 Cobia and a big Jack Crevalle. When the bite slowed we went snapper fishing and we kept a limit of 30 snapper (vermillion and lane), we also kept some sea bass and a triggerfish. We released 2 Red Grouper including 1 with a tag. We also released 17 red snapper, 41 sea bass and 1 more triggers fish. We harvested 4 rudderfish and let 8 go as well. We ended the day inshore looking for another cobia or two. We caught another nice size fish.

Till next report tight lines,
