Stuart - Saltwater Fishing Report

We have caught a lot of fish the past two weeks and variety was the key. Off shore blackfin tuna were caught around Push Button Hill in good numbers. They were small but made for some great eating. We had a dozen on a trip last Saturday when some friends and I chartered a forty -two footer due to sloppy seas. The fish were all over the place and we wrapped it up by eleven AM. There was a good dolphin bite last week for a few days but it slowed near the end of the week. It should pick up again as we get into November. Live bait has been hard to come by as the discharges from Lake "O" continue. The bottom has been red hot near the sand pile and six mile reef. Last Friday we had over a dozen yellowtail, a few lane, and vermillion snapper. The sea bass were hitting along with black margate an some big pogies. That night we had a great dinner. Back in the St. Lucie River we had a mixed bag of jacks, ladyfish, seatrout, and snook at the dime bridge. The north fork has some big snook and tarpon in the canals and seawalls and the lighted docks at night. We released a thirty eight inch snook last Thursday which was caught on a live mullet. All said and done it was a great two weeks of fishing and it should improve as we get further into fall. More later.
