Stuart - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishing has been good when the weather has permitted going offshore. More sailfish and dolphin are being caught as each cold front moves through, but the downside is that the seas kick up also. Blackfin tuna are also being caught in decent numbers at Push Button Hill. We had a great day of bottom fishing last week off of the Loran Tower which is South of the St. Lucie Inlet. We hit a school of mutton snapper which kept us getting a hit on every drop we made. A lot of them were just short but we managed three keepers. We had several nice trigger fish, mangroves, vermillion, yellowtail, and porgy along with a few small sharks. We were prepared to drag some ballyhoo offshore but we could not leave fish to catch fish. Near the beach surfcasters are having fun with bluefish and Spanish mackerel and pompano which are beginning to move in with the cooler water. At the bridges there are snook and black drum along with some croaker. Look for flounder around the inlet on live finger mullet or shrimp on a jig head. In the north fork of the St. Lucie River, snook and jacks are chasing mullet schools up and down the seawalls and canals. We released several over the slot snook last week.Look for the pompano to move up into the rivers in the next month and the Spanish mackerel to take up residence in Pecks Lake. More later.
