Stuart Area Offshore and Inshore

Capt. Kevin Drennan
December 28, 2008
Stuart - Saltwater Fishing Report

Sailfish, dolphin, kings, and Spanish mackerel are in decent numbers out of the St. Lucie inlet. Anyone that can get out on a given day is coming back with fish. Look for sails and dolphin from one hundred and twenty feet to two hundred and forty. Kings are in a bit closer. The Spanish can be anywhere from twenty to forty feet south of the inlet. We loaded up on three to five pounders the other day that were chasing glass minnows. Near the surf there are plenty of blues and some pompano. We had a great pompano bite the other day on Sailfish Flats On the incoming tide. We were using Doc's goofy jigs in yellow with a pink colored feather on the second hook and shrimp tipped redfish jigs in the copper color. There was also a good bite at the Stuart Causeway also on the incoming tide. Look for pompano also at Hells Gate as the clean water moves in. There is as always a lot of jacks and lady fish mixed in and an occasional bonefish being caught near the Crossroads. This coming week we are looking forward to calming seas as the wind lets up so we can get offshore for some sails and dolphin and catch some nice sheepshead at the bridges on the way in. Trout season opens January first so get your gear ready. More later.
