Stuart - Saltwater Fishing Report

Due to the unseasonably warm weather, the sailfish bite off of Stuart has been spotty at best. There are some fish moving through but the majority of them are still being caught well north of us. Even the Spanish mackerel have thinned out at Peck's Lake but that should change with the cold air bearing down on us. We managed to release a couple of sails the other day but we did not see one dolphin. There are a few kings being caught in sixty to eighty feet. The bottom fishing has been hot with a variety of snapper and some grouper being caught on the wrecks and reefs. We had some vermillion, trigger fish, mutton, and even a couple of yellowtail on our last trip out. Inside the inlet the pompano bite has been very good on some days. The Stuart Causeway has been a hot spot along with Hell's Gate in the St. Lucie River. We have been using shrimp tipped jigs in various colors. Remember to use a small piece of shrimp as this has been more effective. We have also caught Spanish Mackerel, jacks, small mangroves, and lady fish using this method. Bonefish will also hit while jigging for pompano. Trout season is open again and we are looking forward for snook season to reopen in February. More later.
