Stuart Area Offshore and Inshore

Capt. Kevin Drennan
March 31, 2009
Stuart - Saltwater Fishing Report

The past two weeks have been packing winds of thirty miles per hour every day. Few boats have ventured out due to the unsafe conditions. Yesterday the weather finally let up and people were fishing again. There was not great action but a few fish were caught. A dolphin here and there with a sail or two mixed in. We ventured out today and trolled ballyhoo for a couple of hours without a knockdown. After changing over to bottom rigs and thawing out some squid , we were able to Put a few vermillion snapper in the box along with some nice porgies. The sea bass were on the small side and were released. At least everyone left with dinner. We will be out again tomorrow and hopefully the fishing improves. Look for blues at the inlet on spoons and sheepshead inside on shrimp tipped jigs. Pompano are still hanging in there on the flats and around the Stuart Causeway. Small jacks are roaming around the north fork of the St. Lucie chasing glass minnows and a few snook are being caught around the docks and bridges at night. More later.
