Stuart Area Offshore and Inshore

Capt. Kevin Drennan
July 29, 2009
Stuart - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishing has been great for bending rods the past two weeks. Greenies to the north of the St. Lucie Inlet and sardines to the south, have brought the predators in close. Kings bonita, sailfish and even dolphin have been caught in fifty feet or less. Every trip out we were able to limit out on kings as they skyrocketed out of the water chasing our baits. The saifish bite has been good with fish being caught just about anywhere. The dolphin bite has been scattered but a surprising number of schoolies have been caught in water as shallow as thirty feet. Bonita are everywhere and can make you run out of bait sooner than you want to. The bottom fishing has picked up as the water temps have risen. We had a mixed bag of vermillion, mangroves, porgy. and triggerfish at the Loran Tower Ledge the other day. Remember that the bag limit on vermillion snapper drops from ten per angler down to five per angler starting today. Look for tarpon on the beach early. Also the Crossroads and the north fork of the St. Lucie River are holding fish. Big jacks and snook are pounding mullet along the docks and seawalls in the north fork also. There is plenty of bait and plenty of fish to catch so get out and enjoy it. More later.
