Stuart Area Offshore and Inshore

Capt. Kevin Drennan
August 23, 2009
Stuart - Saltwater Fishing Report

I have been out of state on vacation, so it has been a while since I reported on the fishing in the Stuart area. Hurricane Bill has passed by to the east of us and is heading north leaving some large swells in his wake. The fishing has been good but the dolphin bite has been slow. A few blackfin have been caught and we look for them to become more numerous. The king bite has been decent with some occasional red hot days. A cobia or two are still being caught if one is lucky enough to run across them and sails can be had in shallow water if the bait schools are around. Look for catch and release snook and mangrove snapper near the inlet rocks. There is a good tarpon bite at the cross roads when boat traffic is slow. Tarpon can also be found near the Roosevelt Bridge in the early morning and at night. Tarpon can also be found in the north fork of the St. Lucie River by Harbor Ridge and Club Med. Snook season reopens September 1st and we are looking forward to some great meals. The mullet run should begin soon and we will see the snook pounding them on the seawalls and in the canals in both rivers. More later.
