Stuart - Saltwater Fishing Report
We have gotten out twice in the past week and had one great day while the other was mediocre. We found acres of greenies off of Hobe Sound in fifteen feet of water and quickly loaded up the bait well. We went out to one hundred and twenty feet, put out two livies, and within a minute both rods went off. We lost the first one but the second line brought in a twenty pound king which was gaffed and put in the fish box for smoking. It was the first king for my client but there would be several more. We saw a couple of free jumping sailfish in the area and had one nose a blue runner in our spread but it would not eat. We saw two boats in our area that were also hooked up with sails. When the bite slowed, we moved into sixty feet east of the Sandpile and had several more king bites. On our second trip, we had trouble finding bait, so we went ten miles north to buoy fourteen and loaded up on sardines. We traveled back to the spot that we had caught all of the kings on the first trip. The king bite was just not the same, but we saw several sailfish in the area and before long we had one on. He tail jumped south and we had to pick up speed to stay even with him. He abruptly reversed course, became bill wrapped and broke off still tail walking until he realized he was no longer hooked. Thunder storms began to close in on us so we had to call it a day. Our next trip out will be bottom fishing so I will report on that next week. Snook season opens tomorrow and we look forward to landing some. More later.
