Stuart Area Offshore and Inshore

Capt. Kevin Drennan
September 16, 2009
Stuart - Saltwater Fishing Report

The offshore fishing out of Stuart has consisted of Kings, bonita, and an occasional sailfish, But a change is on the way the past few days. More and more dolphin are being caught and it should get much better as we move into October. Look for the weed lines and edges. If they are holding bait, throw out a live bait and wait. We fished in seventy five feet of water off of the Loran Tower and limited out on vermillion snapper. We also had a mixed bag of porgies, trigger fish, and sea bass in less than two hours. There are reports of muttons on the sandpile and we saw a nice cobia caught on the Bull Shark Barge. The real good news is that the fall mullet run has started and tarpon are everywhere. They are chasing schools of mullet along the beach, the Indian River and the bridges in the St. Lucie River. Another good spot to hook one is at the Crossroads where the two rivers meet. Snook, goliath grouper and black drum are also being caught at the bridges. We had one of each on our way in from an offshore trip last week using live herring. The snook was over twenty pounds. We are preparing for a bottom fishing trip tomorrow and if we limit out early we will try to get in on some dolphin action. More later.
