Stuart - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishing out of Stuart has been good if you target the right species. We did a bottom fishing trip to the Loran Tower and once again limited out on beeliners. We also had plenty of porgies and trigger fish. After we caught these, we heard a report on the radio of skipjack and blackfin tuna being caught in one hundred and seventy five feet of water. We shot out and began to troll feathers and jet heads. Our first two fish were bonita but we stayed with it. Two rods went off and we landed one out of two skipjacks. The fish was about twelve pounds. The next half hour yielded six blackfins but they were only about five pounds each. This was great fun on spinning tackle. On our next couple of tuna trips, the fish were out in deeper water near Push Button Hill. We had some great seared tuna every night.
The dolphin bite has not taken off yet and the catches are sporadic. Kings and cudas are in the mullet schools off of the beach along with tarpon Look for the tarpon south of the inlet, at the cross roads inside the inlet, and at the bridges at night. The bridges are holding snook, Goliath grouper, and black drum. Look for snook and tarpon busting the mullet schools in the Indian River in the early morning. More later
