Stuart - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishing has been good the past two weeks and we took full advantage of it. Large schools of glass minnows are all around the St. Lucie inlet and the predators are having a feast. Spanish mackerel, bonita, jacks and blue runners were caught by us as we were headed offshore. Light spinning rods with Clark spoons did the trick and bent everyone's rods. The blackfin and skip jack tuna are still out by Push Button Hill and some days as shallow as one hundred and fifty feet. We released the smaller ones but kept a couple of the bigger ones for a seared tuna meal. We saw a school of dolphin as we were trolling but could not get them to eat. The dolphin bite is still sporadic but is gradually picking up. We fished the bottom off of the Loran tower and had a mixed bag of porgy and triggerfish but not that many snapper. Look for kings in sixty to ninety feet as well as bonita and barracuda. Sailfish are spread out but are still being released. Tarpon can be found both north and south of the inlet feeding on finger mullet near the beach. Inside the inlet, we caught jacks, lady fish, blue runners, and Spanish mackerel using shrimp tipped jigs. Snook and tarpon are roaming in the shadow lines of the bridges at night. More later.
