Stuart Area Offshore and Inshore

Capt. Kevin Drennan
October 27, 2009
Stuart - Saltwater Fishing Report

The cold front two weeks ago pushed the wave heights up to eight feet. We were stuck inside and it was hard to fish the river with wind gusts up to thirty miles per hour. We did manage to catch jacks, lady fish, and blue fish at the Ten Cent Bridge using shrimp tipped jigs We also hooked up some over the slot snook in the canals of the north fork of the St. Lucie River on live mullet. Over the past weekend we were able to get out of the inlet. We saw schools of blue fish feeding just south of the inlet. We used Clark spoons and hooked up every time we trolled through them. They were in the two to three pound range and were perfect for the smoker. Dolphin are being caught in eighty to one hundred and twenty feet and a surprising number of sails are being caught also. We are planning a bottom trip this week to target vermillion snapper before they are shut down on November first. They cannot be kept until the season reopens April first of next year. This has not happened before and it is a blow to the recreational fishermen. We are looking forward to a great dolphin run and sailfish season. More later.
