Stuart Area Offshore and Inshore

Capt. Kevin Drennan
February 16, 2010
Stuart - Saltwater Fishing Report

The past two weeks have been very windy for the most part, keeping most boats inside the inlet. Even the river was hard to fish when it is blowing twenty to twenty five out of the north. We had one trip to Peck's Lake which produced all the Spanish mackerel we wanted. We went back a couple of days later and the fish were gone. The ocean temperature was sixty degrees. The fish should return when it warms up some. Over the past week the large rays have been moving through the area with cobia beneath them. One of our local boats hooked into eleven of them on Sunday in thirty five feet south of the inlet. The action continued on Monday but it was not as good due to the volume of boats sight casting to them. The clients we had aboard got some great video of these big rays right next to the boat. There still are some sails and dolphin around but they are scattered. Look for kings in sixty to eighty feet on the Six Mile Reef. Bottom fishing has been decent when the winds allow it. Blue fish have been the dominant species both inside and outside the inlet. The cold water does not seem to affect their appetite at all. We loaded up on them just outside the inlet yesterday. We are facing another cold and windy week and we cannot wait to get out again. More later.
