Stuart Area Offshore and Inshore

Capt. Kevin Drennan
April 14, 2010
Stuart - Saltwater Fishing Report

It seems that whenever the dolphin fishing picks up, so does the wind. It is blowing twenty to twenty five mph today and will do so until Saturday. The dolphin bite has been scattered but some bigger fish have been caught. Out at Pushbutton Hill, blackfin tuna are being caught on feathers and bubble jets. We were lucky enough to pick up several the other day in some fairly rough seas. Kings are being caught in good numbers and have finally begun to move up to our area. On our last trip out we had to go out to one hundred and fifty feet to hit seventy degree water. There are plenty of bonita around and some big amberjack on the wrecks. Bottom fishing has been good when the current allows. Snapper, porgy and triggerfish have been the mainstay. Blues, jacks and some pompano are making surf casters rods bend. The river has become cloudy due to discharges from Lake O through the St. Lucie Locks. This dirty fresh water will certainly put a damper on the fishing until it is stopped. Next week looks like we will be having better fishing conditions and we are looking forward to getting out. More later.
