Stuart - Saltwater Fishing Report

The past couple of weeks we have seen some great fishing and we were able to restock our freezers with meat. There are mullet, pilchards, and bunker in the rivers and near the inlet and the predators are feeding. We are filling up our bait wells and taking live baits off shore. The dolphin bite has been very good with fish being caught from sixty feet out. We had a bunch the other day on finger mullet between sixty and eighty feet just south of the inlet. We also had a couple of successful trips off of the Loran Tower for muttons, vermilions, triggers and porgies. Remember that the vermillion snapper are shut down in November. We had a great blackfin tuna bite at Push Button Hill although some of the fish were on the small side. Seared tuna is one of the favorites at my house. The surf has tarpon, snook, blue fish, and the Spanish mackerel are beginning to move in. There are schools of jacks and lady fish cruising the rivers feeding on the large schools of bait. The snook bite is hot at the bridges at night but can be caught during the day on live bait near the bottom. A livie on a 3/8 jig head works well. We had two keeper snook the past week in the canals on the north fork of the St. Lucie River and I had a great snook dinner for the first time in many months. It is a great time to be fishing so get out and enjoy it. More later.
