Stuart - Saltwater Fishing Report

As October draws to a close, we are looking forward to the changes that November should bring. The sailfish bite should pick up with each cool front that passes through the area. Spanish mackerel will start to stack up at Peck's Lake, and blue fish will dominate the surf chasing bait fish. Blue fish and Spanish mackerel can be caught inside the inlet on both spoons and cut baits. The incoming tides are the best. Snook are still being caught in both rivers on live mullet during the day and flair hawks at night. There are still some tarpon around. We observed a small boat fighting one at the mouth of the inlet as we were returning from an offshore trip last week. The past two weeks we concentrated on bottom fishing because vermillion snapper will be shut down from November 1st until April 1st. Our efforts paid off and we caught our five per angler on every trip. We also boated grouper, mangrove, yellow tail, porgy, sea bass, and some large trigger fish. Everyone was happy and left the dock with bags of filets. We fished off of the Loran Tower in about seventy feet of water with cut squid as our bait. There are a few dolphin being caught but the bite has been scattered. Blackfin tuna are still being caught near Push Button Hill and look for kings in around sixty feet. More later.
