Stuart Area Offshore and Inshore

Capt. Kevin Drennan
February 28, 2011
Stuart - Saltwater Fishing Report

The fishing has not changed much in the past two weeks due to cool water outside the inlet. Horn bellies are about the only bait to be found except for the Evans Crary Bridge rubble which is in sixty five feet of water southeast of the inlet. We found sardines and cigar minnows with an occasional goggle eye there. Water temps were in the sixties out to a hundred and twenty feet which really slowed down the fishing. Some sails and a few dolphin are being caught but not in good numbers. There has been a few cobia caught along the beach in about twenty feet of water slow trolling live baits. For bending rods, nothing beats the Spanish mackerel bite south of the inlet we caught some decent sized ones there the other day. Blue fish are just outside the inlet and all over the rivers. We caught one in a net while while casting for bunker. Bunker are in the north fork of the St. Lucie River getting pounded by blue fish and snook. The pompano bite has been on and off with the Stuart Causeway being the best bet. Look for the cobia bite to take off as the water warms up. More later.
