Stuart Area Offshore and Inshore

Capt. Kevin Drennan
March 15, 2011
Stuart - Saltwater Fishing Report

It has been windy off and on the past two weeks but some decent fish have been caught. Sailfish and some dolphin are being boated in decent numbers from one hundred and sixty feet out. Amberjack are on the wrecks along with an occasional cobia. Bottom fishing has been good but with grouper, vermillion snapper, and sea bass out of season, there is not much to keep other than porgy and trigger fish. The taking of vermillion begins on April 1st. Moving closer in, the Spanish mackerel bite is still strong south of the inlet. The blue fish are still around and bending rods inside and outside the inlet. Inside the inlet is a mixed bag of fish. We caught blue fish, blue runners, sheepshead, flounder, and some good sized pompano along with plenty of ladyfish. The Roosevelt Bridge is holding some big black drum that are hitting live shrimp on a jig head. There is plenty of mullet and bunker in the north fork of the St. Lucie River being pounded by snook and big jacks. More later.
