Stuart Area Offshore and Inshore

Capt. Kevin Drennan
August 31, 2011
Stuart - Saltwater Fishing Report

Hurricane Irene ravaged the Bahamas and the East coast but it actually helped the dolphin fishing here in Florida. Once the seas subsided last weekend boats were treated to multiple hookups of dolphin in many different depths. Some were caught on Push Button Hill in three hundred feet while others were caught in as low as sixty five feet. We were out on Tuesday and caught most of our fish in eighty five feet having multiple hookups several times. The bottom fishing was not so hot but should get better as the water clarity improves. All we could muster up was a couple of nice triggerfish and small sea bass before we went on the troll. There were sails being caught along with plenty of bonita. Some decent blackfin were being caught in two hundred and seventy feet southeast of Push Button Hill. We saw plent of ladyfish feasting on glass minnows at the crossroads on the way out. September 1st is the opening of snook season and we are anxious to put one on the table. Remember, only one fish per person in the twenty eight to thirty two inch slot and you must have a snook stamp on your salt water license. Good luck. More later.
