Stuart Area Offshore and Inshore

Capt. Kevin Drennan
April 12, 2012
Stuart - Saltwater Fishing Report

The dolphin bite has been slow lately. Some are being caught but the numbers are just not where they should be. We have seen a decent amount of sailfish and some king mackerel chasing bait in sixty to eighty feet of water south of the St. Lucie inlet. A few cobia are being caught around the Sandpile and reefs. There are plenty of amberjack on the wrecks along with a few almaco jacks. The bottom fishing has been the mainstay with plenty of fish being caught. We had several trips that produced our limit of vermillion snapper along with plenty of trigger fish and porgies. We also had some yellowtail snapper in seventy five feet off of the Loran Tower. We also released a cobia that was just short. Snook are hanging around the bridges and are being caught on live bait during the day and artificials worked around the shadow lines at night. Black drum and croaker are being taken with shrimp on a jig head. We also have some tarpon moving in the north fork of the St. Lucie River. In the next few weeks we are looking forward to the dolphin bite to pick up as it usually does this time of year and the spring mullet run to bring the tarpon into the rivers. More later.
