Stuart Area Offshore and Inshore

Capt. Kevin Drennan
June 14, 2012
Stuart - Saltwater Fishing Report

The fishing has been decent but we had to work hard to put fish in the box lately. We had several good bottom fishing trips south of the inlet. We limited out on vermillion snapper along with some lanes, trigger fish, and plenty of porgy. Several undersized grouper were also released. The dolphin bite has been sporadic. Some boats will catch a bunch and others will not get a knockdown. We caught a few kings in sixty feet east of the Sandpile along with bonita, and several schoolie dolphin. The porpoises have been a real pain as they try to steal your hooked fish before you can get it to your boat. The tuna bite has slowed considerably but there are plenty of amberjack on the wrecks. Live bait is on one day and of the next. Several eighteen to twenty pound muttons have been caught in the past couple of weeks. Catch and release snook are spawning at the inlet rocks and big jacks are roaming near the beach. A few cobia have been boated trolling along the beach north of the inlet. Sailfish are out there but it has been tough to get them to bite. They will play with the baits in the spread and disappear. Tarpon are showing up along the beach and in the St. Lucie River near Harbor Ridge. More later
