Stuart - Saltwater Fishing Report

Offshore fishing in the Stuart area has been picking up lately thanks to the arrival of large schools of threadfin herring off of the old Holiday Inn. We went through plenty of sabicki rigs as small sharks and cudas attacked the baits as we were bringing them in. There is a decent sailfish bite in that area due to the abundance of food. A few cobia have been caught in the same area. The Spanish mackerel bite has been hot at Peck's Lake and it does not take long to boat what you need. We fished the bottom down by the Loran Tower and had to pick through scores of sea bass to get some decent porgy. We had a party of three from New Jersey, Tom Basile, and Robert and Brian Koch who caught double headers on every drop. We also caught a couple of decent dolphin trolling in one to two hundred feet of water on rigged ballyhoo. On a couple of river trips we caught jacks, lady fish, blue runners, ribbon fish, bluefish and croaker near the bridges. The pompano bite has been very inconsistent probably due to elevated water temps. It looks like we can look forward to an increase in cobia and dolphin in the coming month. More later.
