Stuart - Saltwater Fishing Report

March was a wild month with some record low temperatures and windy conditions, but we managed to get some decent fishing in. The dolphin bite has really picked up. We had several trips with multiple hookups and were able boat a few decent fish. Trolled ballyhoo on edges and weed lines was the way to go as just about every boat out there came in with fish. A few wahoo have also been caught using the same method. We had a good Spanish mackerel bite just south of the inlet, but it has slowed down in the past week or so. We caught and released plenty of sea bass off the Loran Tower. We were able to pick through them and managed to catch some porgy and trigger fish. The sailfish bite has slowed but a few are still being hooked. In the surf, look for whiting and blue fish feeding on glass minnows. Inside we caught lady fish, jacks, blue runners, and cat fish on shrimp tipped jigs. As the water temps rise the snook bite should pick up near the docks and bridges. Vermillion snapper season reopened April 1st. Remember only five per person and twelve inches long with a tail pinch. More later.
