Stuart Area Offshore and Inshore

Capt. Kevin Drennan
June 23, 2013
Stuart - Saltwater Fishing Report

We had a mixed bag of fishing the past month catching just about everything out there. The dolphin bite has been on and off, but when it turns on, plenty of fish are being caught. Sailfish are being caught in very good numbers in the bait pods near shore. Schools of cobia have been passing through and are being caught at the Bull Shark Barge and Sandpile. We had a couple on the other day and lost the bigger one to a shark which we fought for an hour and a half before breaking it off. We boated king mackerel in fifty-two feet of water on live threadfins north of the St. Lucie inlet. One went about thirty pounds and landed in the smoker. Bottom fishing south of the inlet we had a mixed bag of vermillion and lane snapper, some big trigger fish, and mess of good sized porgy. We also released a ton of undersized sea bass, blue runners and almaco jacks. We also released a few big bonito in eighty feet straight out of the inlet. There are schools of tarpon chasing the bait which has been in ten to twenty feet of water just off of the beach north of the House of Refuge. We are hoping the cobia run continues for another couple of weeks. More later.
