Stuart - Saltwater Fishing Report
August 14:
Today we were charter fishing with Joyce and Allan Ortner who are repeat clients. We were scheduled for a 1/2 day deep sea charter but it was cut short due to fast approaching storms from the East. We ended up only fishing until 9:45 before heading home. We caught a limit of Kingfish and 3 Bonito as well in about an hour. We talked about bottom fishing or moving and continuing to try and fish for a dolphin or sailfish. We opted for the dolphin and sailfish opportunity but never had that bite before we had to come home!

We had a great day today as a family and Zane was our star angler today. Mandy, my Father, Zane and myself took the DayMaker and entered the Stuart Sailfish Club Jr. Angler Tournament. Zane looks forward to this every year and this year was no exception. The tournament departure was delayed an hour because of weather but my plan of attack was to hit the early morning kingfish and bonito bite on the 6 mile and then look for amberjack and snapper. Well in an hr of fishing where we have had good and consistent kingfishing we only had 3 bites and never really came tight. Zane and myself were loosing patience and I was feeling the pressure. So we i gave him the option. Lots of action with small snapper and reef fish or try to catch a fish as big as he was on the bent but hand crank. He opted for the big fish and away we went. He landed a 35lb Amberjack after a 15 minute battle and then it was off to the snapper hole. We caught some nice Genuine Reds on the chicken rigs that we let go and we also caught a handful of B Liners keeping enough for dinner and making sure we had a quality snapper to weigh! After that we hit a few spots on the way toward the inlet looking for a kingfish or bonito but had no bites. We ended up getting in early to beat the storms that were fast approaching.
Zane won first place snapper and 2nd place amberjack! I am so proud of him he did a great job.
August 16:
Today we took Paul Kabalin and his son Reef on a one day Tuna run to the East side of the Gulfstream. We enjoyed beautiful weather and had decent fishing. We ended up coming home with 11 Tuna and 7 mahis. It was a great day of fishing with great people. We didn't have anything really big but it all added up and everyone went home with a nice bag of fish that will last for a couple of weeks...
