Trolling for Dolphin and Sailfish

Capt. Nick Cremasco
April 2, 2013
Stuart - Saltwater Fishing Report

March 26:

Today our deep sea fishing charter Stuart was rescheduled because of high winds and big seas stemming from a cold front that is passing through. We are hoping to get out tomorrow for another great Stuart Fl fishing charter aboard DayMaker fishing charters.

March 27:

Unfortunately the weather continues to plague our offshore fishing charters. We are hoping to be able to run tomorrows charter for some great Spring fishing action. Are Spring fishing was getting on track before this BIG cold front came through. This is very unusual weather for this time of year so it is possible the fishing will be off a little bit in the coming days.

March 28:

Today we fished with Gary Mirsky and his friends from New York. We enjoyed great weather with 10-15 knot winds out of the NW. We started our charter fishing for dolphin and sailfish. Fishing was sporadic at best on our Jensen Beach charter. We ended up picking away at the Dolphin and missing a sail. We also caught some bonito on our 3/4 day charter. The water quality inshore from the high seas the past couple of days prevented us from being able to bottom fish or find any Cobia.

March 29:

Today our Jensen Beach Dolphin charter was with Fred and his two sons Kyle and Keith. We started the day trolling for dolphin and sailfish and within the first 10 minutes we had jumped off a 10lb dolphin and released a sail. Fishing proved to be at a slower pace after that but we did manage to keep 6 dolphin by the end of the day up to 10lbs. We also caught some bonito on our Stuart Fishing charter. Fishing has been in a pattern of good morning action on the back side of the full moon but the bite has quickly tapered off to nothing by 10. We have been fishing abbreviated fishing charters so we have not been able to enjoy the start of the afternoon bite which has been starting around 1 o'clock.

March 30:

Today we fished a 3/4 day fishing charter with Monty and his son Scott. We caught a few live baits to fall back on some bottom fishing if we needed too. We started out trolling in 65 ft. of water around some bait and birds. We quickly missed a sail and caught a bonito. We also had a king bite on the planer rod but it came off. We trolled for dolphin and sails to the North and offshore. We ended up catching some small gaffer dolphin and Monty fought a 30 lb. mahi-mahi to the boat before the leader broke 3 feet out of gaff range.

The current was ripping offshore so when the trolling bite slowed again we decided to run inshore and look for some Lane Snapper. The water was cold inshore and all we caught were Sea Bass. We changed plans again on our Jensen Beach fishing charter and decided to anchor up and try to catch a Cobia. After no bites in 45 minutes we pulled the anchor and decided to look on an inshore spot for some permit to catch on the light tackle. We didn't find any Permit and the water quality was a little off. See you on Monday for another Stuart FL fishing charter.
