Stuart - Saltwater Fishing Report

If you like sushi, we've had some great yellowfin tuna trips lately.
July 18:
Today we fished with repeats Gary Wally, Doug Weeks and their guest. We enjoyed a great tuna fishing charter catching 11 Yellowfin Tuna keeping 10 with fish weighing up to 80lbs. We also caught a couple skipjack tuna which we released and 8 Black fin tuna keeping 6.
We had a blue marlin on but unfortunately broke the main line and watched the fish jump off into the sunset to fight another day.

July 20:
Today we fished with the Atwell family and had decent fishing for some tuna. We caught a handful of Blackfin tuna to 18 lbs. and had 5 Yellowfin from 22-75 lbs. We were sharked on a couple fish for the first time this season.

July 21:
Today we tried to leave the dock but were greeted with lightning and rain and decided to reschedule for a nicer day. Stuart fishing charters have been getting hammered by the weather the last 4 to 6 weeks. Hope this week and August are good for us.
July 22:
We have been in a terrible weather pattern lately with lots of rain and lighting. We were scheduled to fish a sword trip tonight with a couple guys traveling from Tampa. We decided to scratch that idea based on the afternoon thunderstorms. The new plan was to tuna fish since it had been so good and the guys regularly catch bottom fish on the west coast.
Well we touched base at midnight before they were driving over and the radar looked like S*%t!. So we decided we would fish locally as a last resort. As I was setting the boat up in the morning I knew this is not what these guys wanted to do but unfortunately we had afternoon obligations for Tuesday which would not allow us another shot a tuna trip. By the way, the weather turned out to be amazing today. UGH! So we sent them tuna fishing with another boat of comparable pricing on Tuesday.
They caught some blackfin and yellowfin to 73lbs and a sail. Hopefully we have another opportunity to take Jima and his friend fishing. Trying to predict the weather this time of year is tough and I hate for the idea of people throwing away money. We do the best we can with what we are given and all fairness to the customer.
July 24:
We decided to leave the dock an hour early today to get in some high speed trolling for wahoo at first light. I loaded our well with bait from the bait pen and we headed offshore dodging divers for the lobster mini season. We high speed trolled for wahoo for 2 hours without a bite. Decided to switch gears to a standard ballyhoo spread with a spoon on the planer. No Bites!
Tried bottom fishing at 10 different spots only to break off a grouper and catch a single 25lb Amberjack.
Back to trolling again on our Florida fishing charter. We started to have some bites and caught bonito and a small mahi. Saw a free jumping sail close enough to target. We made a couple circles and on the second circle we hooked the fish on the inside rigger. Pulled off and then re-hooked only to jump the fish off. There went our DayMaker. We decided to run inshore and look for Cobia but the water quality inshore is terrible from the Lake O discharge. We called it quits early.
Make your Day aboard the DayMaker,
