Tuna Fills the Coolers Again

Capt. Nick Cremasco
August 12, 2013
Stuart - Saltwater Fishing Report

August 6:

Today we fished with Jim and Tom for a East Side Tuna fishing charter. We had great action early. In the first hour and a half of fishing we caught 5 Yellowfin from 25 to 60lbs. We also caught a couple Blackfin and Skipjack Tuna. After 8:30 we saw plenty of Yellowfin jumping and rolling but unfortunately we could not get them to cooperate.

August 7:

Today we fished with Angela and Sid. They did not want to troll at all so we went bottom fishing. Conditions inside of 60ft have been hit or miss because of the Lake O discharges. So we headed offshore and had a few bites but some bad luck and missed all the bites we had. We ran inshore to look for cobia at 4 spots with no luck. Sid caught a 250lb Goliath Grouper which was his biggest fish to date. We ended the day catching some small lane snapper and sea bass for dinner.

August 8:

Today we fished with Matt and Jessie. We were suppose to go tuna fishing but turned around because of weather. We re-grouped and got geared up for a local charter. We started the day catching a little bait for bottom fishing. We started the day trolling but had little action only catching a couple bonito. We hop-scotched around catching a couple amberjack to 30lbs a keeper Gag Grouper and released a 60lb Warsaw Grouper. We also caught and released a nurse shark that weighed about 75lbs and a couple of 150lb Goliath Grouper.

August 9:

Today we fished a 1/2 day with Tim and decided to focus on bottom fishing because of the uptick in bites yesterday. We hit about 20 spots with limited results. We caught a 15lb Genuine Red snapper, a 20lb Almaco Jack, a 30lb Amberjack, and a 25lb Gag to cap off the day. We had a dozen other bites that we did not connect on unfortunately.

Tomorrow is another day.

August 10:

Today was the Stuart Sailfish Club Junior Angler Tournament and we took Zane fishing. However it was a little rough for him and we turned around. Hopefully weather will be a little better next year.
